The stylus functions as a pen you can use directly on the device screen to enter text in any applicable fields. You can also use the stylus to open or select options from pick lists and navigate through the interface.
Tip: The device recognizes most print or cursive handwriting, though cursive handwriting usually works better.
In fields containing pick lists, writing a letter brings up the first option in the list beginning with that letter. This feature is typically used in fields with long pick lists. If only one option begins with the letter you entered, it is automatically entered in the selected field.
To use the stylus
Place the tip of the stylus in the field you want to write in. You must start writing within the field itself, but you can use the entire screen to write.
Begin writing. When you are done, your handwriting is converted to text.
- If you are writing in a free-text field, word suggestions appear beneath your text in case your handwriting was converted incorrectly. If necessary, tap one of the correction buttons to correct your entry.
- If you are writing in a field where you must make a selection, a window appears if there is more than one match for the text you entered. Select the correct option in the window and tap OK. If there is only one match, the selection appears in the field.
- If the field requires additional information, repeat steps 1-2 as necessary and ensure the text displays correctly.
Tip: If necessary, clear the field to start again.
When using the stylus for inking, you can populate a date/time field with the current date and time by simply writing a check mark in that field. This works for date/time fields in the Quick Times windows and those within event tables.
Further, by marking an X over a procedural field in the event tables will bring up the Not Values window, allowing you to quickly document pertinent Not values associated with an event.
