TripTix Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), is an automated tool that evaluates every run record finalized by department members according to a configurable set of criteria. The results are available to the report writer as well as Department Quality Assurance and Administrative users. This rapid and configurable feedback provides report writers with reinforcement of good documentation practices while also allowing for quick adjustments to potential documentation errors.
To Create a CQI Rule
Note: Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
- From any page, go to Administration > CQI. The Continuous Quality Improvement page opens.
- Select the category tab matching the type of rule you want to create.
- To add a rule, click Add [Category] CQI Rule. [Category] will reflect the CQI group tab you have selected. The Create Rule page opens.
- Assign your new rule a unique and descriptive name at (1).
- Describe your new rule at (2). [Optional].
- If the rule being created checks for a Key Decision, indicate that by checking the box at (3).
- The total possible point value of a rule, if any, is indicated at (4).
- Click Save and Activate to save the selected rule and begin evaluating run records using the defined Criterion.
- Click Save to save a CQI rule in its current state (Active or Inactive).
Add Criterion
Criterion are the set of conditions, that when met, include the rule’s results in a run record’s CQI report. For ease or reference, the article will refer to a rule’s Top Criterion.
Note: Fields available to criterion are specific to the category of the rule created.
- Click Add Field to Search Criteria to open a selector for field to include in the criteria. Select the first field to include in the criteria.
- Select or enter field value(s) to include in the criterion.
Note: If multiple values are selected in a single field they are treated as OR conditions. - Depending on the field type an additional operators may be available to adjust how the rule evaluates the criterion.
- Adding another field via Add Field to Search Criteria allows for the rule to evaluate multiple data fields in a single criterion.
Note: If multiple data fields are included in a single criterion they are treated as an AND condition.
Note: The above criterion looks for the Procedure "12 Lead ECG Obtained" AND Procedure Successful is "Yes". When both values are present in the same event this rule will take the actions defined subsequently in the rule.
Add Action
- Select the Add Action field to see a list of available actions the rule will take if the Top Criterion has been met.
Note: The list of available actions is dependent on the types of fields included in the criterion.
Note: Some actions allow for the rule to evaluate additional fields in the run record.
- Click Add to have the rule perform the selected action when the criterion is met.
Conditional Criterion
Additional fields evaluated by a CQI rule are conditional criterion. Conditional criterion are only evaluated if the rule’s Top Criterion has been met.
- Click Add Field to Search Criteria to open a selector for field to include in the criteria. Select the first field to include in the criteria.
- Select or enter field value(s) to include in the criterion.
- Note: If multiple values are selected in a single field they are treated as OR conditions.
- Depending on the field type an additional operators may be available to adjust how the rule evaluates the criterion.
- Adding another field via Add Field to Search Criteria allows for the rule to evaluate multiple data fields in a single criterion.
- Note: If multiple data fields are included in a single criterion they are treated as an AND condition.
Conditional Criterion Actions
Actions a CQI Rule takes when conditional criteria are met or not are able to be added directly beneath the Conditional Criterion.
- The Action if YES, Documentation Found field is a list of actions to be taken if the criteria is met. Select the action the rule should take and click
- Use the Add Note to Report action to provide feedback to the Report Owner.
- The Add points to Score action adds a point value to the associated criterion. The sum of all points that may be added via this action are visible in the Possible Points
- The Action if NO, Documentation NOT Found field is a list of actions the rule takes if the criteria is NOT met.
- Use the Add Note to Report action to provide feedback to the Report Owner.
- The Add points to Score action adds a point value to the associated criterion. The sum of all points that may be added via this action are visible in the Possible Points
Continuous Quality Improvement Portal Fields
Rule Name
A descriptive name for the rule
Rule Description
A free text field visible to Department Managers for the description of the rules function or purpose.
Key Decision
Indicate if the CQI rule evaluates a key clinical decisions. Key decisions are indicated with an icon on the CQI Portal and the CQI Report.
Note: Key Decision functionality may be expanded in a future version of CQI.
Possible Points
A sum of all points that may be added thru rule actions.
Tip: Points will be displayed as (awarded/total – percentage of total), on the CQI report. Adding point values to opposite findings will create a rule where a perfect score is not achievable.
Note: Points are completely optional and are not required for the CQI Report to be completed and delivered to Run Owners.
Add Criterion
Field containing all arguments for the inclusion of the rule on a CQI report. Multiple fields in the Add Criterion box are treated as AND arguments, meaning all criteria must be true for the Criterion to be met.
Add Field to Search Criteria
This allows for the selection of a field to be evaluated for the presence of specific data. Fields with more than one data value listed are treated as OR arguments, meaning any indicated data meeting the criteria creates a true condition.
Add Action
Chose an action to perform when the Top Criterion is true.
Actions
- Add Note to Report - Adds a department defined message to the Rule's entry on the CQI Report.
- Add Points to Score - Adds department defined points to the CQI Report's total.
- Look after this event - CQI Rule looks in events with times that occurred after the Criterion.
- Look before this event - CQI Rule looks in events with times that occurred before the Criterion.
- Look in the entire PCR - CQI Rule looks at all data fields in the PCR.
- Look within all events - CQI Rule looks within all events with times, occurring before and after the Criterion.
- Look within this event - CQI Rule looks at the data points within the event specified in the Criterion.
